Yes i’m back to K2 again. Shoot me.
Got an SSD today. Pain in the arse so far (because i’m being anal).

I’ve recently installed ubuntu on my eeepc 1101ha since I wanted to try it out and see how it compares to windows on the same hardware. I’ve all all kinds of woes in the past regarding the gma500 graphics drivers it needs, but recently they seem to be on top of it. They have also sorted most of the acpi shit too, so the brightness and volume buttons all work.
So with that sorted out I wanted to get it more in line with what I find useful on windows. One thing I wanted was the ability to scroll with a two finger gesture. Luckily I found this for a slightly different eeepc. The procedure was simple:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:plippo/t101mt
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install eeepc-touchpad-twofingers
Reboot. Done.
Yes it’s 4am again and I’m awake. I’ve been watching a shit ton of day9‘s videos on starcraft, as well as playing a little. It’s so much easier to watch videos of starcraft than actually play! I also get pissed off if I lose a match.
I’ve decided to try and stop buying vanity domains and just stick with olly.in, 0l.ly, ollysharp.com… I think those are all the ones I have. Same goes for short domains. I thought short domains were cool and rare, but turns out there are tons of cool tlds which you can get short urls with. I seem always think my domains suck, and everyone elses are better. For example my friend had xx0r.be, ix0.nl and now 0xf.nl. These are far cooler than mine.
It seems to be 4am, I can’t sleep. This has been happening to me more and more recently.
An update on the websites mentioned in the previous posts. They have now been indexed by google, which can be seen this a quick search.
I watched the first season of The Walking Dead in the last two days. I thought it was pretty good, but then I read a review on Ars Technica, which disagreed with me : (. I was looking at domains today, and I see 123-reg has started selling .cx (christmas islands). olly.cx is available, and so is sharp.cx. I should try and convince my family to roll with that one.
Christmas soon. I asked for a PS3 with Gran Turismo 5, but rents think it might affect my studying. We’ll see what happens. I really should do some christmas shopping, only 17 days left!
I read a post over at Digital Point about a guy who makes pretty big websites, with little content, for adsense revenue. His trick is using local keywords to get his search engine ranking. For example a site about baby strollers, he would have pages for the search term “baby strollers Chicago”, and he cane easily rank well for that term. He makes each page identical apart from the location, and does one for each state in the US, and a ton of cities in each state.
I thought I’d have a go. I got Good Payday Loan (high CPC) and Local Window Treatment. I made a template of what I wanted then loaded it all into a php function. Now all I have to do is make a php page for each location which includes the function, then spits it out with the location in place.
This has worked well for me eg with Alabama. My current problem is that the php pages are not being indexed by google, and so are not appearing in the search rankings! Argh!
A new theme! This one is called Wu Wei. I’ll stick with it for a while to see if I like it. Otherwise it’s back to good old K2.
The lightview plugin I was using was causing this blog to break, so I had to turn it off. It has now been updated though so it’s back on and you can enjoy smoothly animated picture and video viewing. Yey!
Struggling to get recaptcha working with yourls at the moment. Thankfully I’ve asked this guy to show me how he did it.
Apparently 0l.ly has had 47 complaints of ‘spamvertising’ so my host has chmod’d it to 0000 till I ‘make changes so that my service cannot be abused by robots/spammers’. So captcha… I’m looking into it.
